At Immigie ("we", "us", or "our"), we are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our platform at immigie.com. Please read this policy carefully.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information that you provide directly, as well as information collected automatically when you use the Platform.

Information You Provide

  • Account information: name, email address, password, and profile details (country of origin, current location, interests)
  • Profile content: photos, bio, and community affiliations
  • Communications: messages sent through the Platform, posts, comments, and other user-generated content
  • Payment information: when subscribing to premium plans (processed securely by third-party payment providers)

Information Collected Automatically

  • Device information: browser type, operating system, and device identifiers
  • Usage data: pages visited, features used, time spent on the Platform, and interaction patterns
  • Location data: approximate location based on IP address (we do not collect precise GPS location without your consent)
  • Log data: IP address, access times, and referring URLs

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the Platform and its features
  • To personalize your experience and suggest relevant connections within your diaspora community
  • To process transactions and manage your subscriptions
  • To communicate with you about updates, security alerts, and support messages
  • To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service
  • To conduct research and analysis to improve our services (using aggregated, anonymized data where possible)

We process your personal data based on the following legal grounds: your consent, performance of a contract (our Terms of Service), our legitimate interests, and compliance with legal obligations.

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • With other users: Profile information you choose to make public is visible to other Immigie users
  • Service providers: We work with trusted third-party providers for hosting, analytics, payment processing, and email delivery
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information when required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request
  • Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as a business asset
  • With your consent: We may share information for other purposes with your explicit consent

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secure servers provided by our infrastructure partners. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular security assessments.

While we strive to protect your information, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but are committed to maintaining industry-standard protections.

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your experience on the Platform. These include:

  • Essential cookies: Required for the Platform to function properly, including authentication and security
  • Analytics cookies: Help us understand how users interact with the Platform so we can improve it
  • Preference cookies: Remember your settings and preferences for a better experience

You can control cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling certain cookies may limit your ability to use some features of the Platform.

Usage analytics (optional)

With your consent, we record how the app and website are used so we can see which features are useful and where people get stuck. This covers which screens you open, how long you spend on each one, and named actions such as viewing an event or buying a ticket. It does not include the content of your messages, posts or profile.

This is optional and off by default. We ask you once when you create your account, and nothing is collected unless you actively agree. You can change your mind at any time in Settings → Help improve Immigie. Turning it off stops collection immediately and deletes the usage data we have already collected about you. Immigie works exactly the same either way — declining does not limit any feature.

Detailed usage records are kept for a maximum of 90 days, after which they are deleted automatically. We retain only aggregated totals (for example, “this screen was opened 400 times in August”), which are not linked to any individual.

Separately, and regardless of this setting, we record the dates on which your account was active and whether you used the website, Android or iOS. This contains no detail about what you did and is necessary to operate, secure and measure the service, so it is not covered by the optional setting above.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Right to erasure: Request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal obligations
  • Right to restrict processing: Request that we limit how we use your data
  • Right to data portability: Request a machine-readable copy of your data
  • Right to object: Object to processing of your data based on legitimate interests
  • Right to withdraw consent: Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@immigie.com. We will respond to your request within 30 days.

7. Children's Privacy & Child Safety Standards

Immigie is intended solely for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, and any account found to belong to a minor is removed.

Immigie has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), including child sexual abuse material (CSAM), grooming, or any content or conduct that sexualizes minors. These are strictly prohibited on Immigie and result in immediate account termination.

Anyone can report child-safety concerns using the in-app Report and Block tools available on every profile, post, and message, or by emailing support@immigie.com. When we identify or are notified of CSAE, we remove the content, terminate the account, preserve relevant evidence, and report to the appropriate authorities — including the U.S. National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and relevant regional and national law-enforcement bodies. We comply with all applicable child-safety laws and regulations.

For our full published standards, see the Immigie Child Safety Standards. If you believe someone under 18 has provided us with personal information, or to report any child-safety concern, contact us at support@immigie.com.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, through an in-app notification or email. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
